Facebook, you did it again! Just when we were getting used to the timeline, you pulled the rug out from under our feet by changing the size of the profile picture that sits on the cover photo.

What does that mean to you? If you incorporated the profile square into into the cover picture design, then chances are your design is now off. For example, Pizza Hut creatively incorporated their profile and cover picture to create one design.

That poor little guy’s arms probably got torn off when the change happened earlier today, but it looks like Pizza Hut’s savvy marketing team made the change.
Here are the new dimensions for the cover and profile pictures (courtesy of: http://www.insidefacebook.com/)
Facebook says the profile picture is 160 X 160 px, but must be saves at 180 X 180 px. Thanks, Facebook for confusing the hell out of us on that one! After some research, I found out that the uploaded image must be a minimum of 180×180 pixels, then Facebook resizes the image on users’ screens to 160 X 160 px.

Check your facebook page – yes now! I noticed on my page that the profile picture increase did not affect my overall design, but my head shrunk a bit in my picture. However, my picture was perfect in my thumbnails (the tiny-you beside each post)

After some frustration, I found that I could not crop or blow up my picture unless I selected a new one (or just selected the same one again) To do this, scroll over your profile picture and you will have choices to chose a new picture and then a choice to crop. After all this, I found a better picture that fit the new size:

Still confused??? Well you’re in luck! Like us on Facebook and ask us your questions:

Last month we had the privileged of designing a HUGE advertisement for Santé of Surprise. Santé is a rehabilitation center for seniors that combines rehab, therapy and hospitality.

When Santé approached me about the design, they told me it was 75 Feet by 12 feet. Holy ad design! But of course I spoke with the printer and he said I could set up the file at 10%. That’s only 7.5 feet x 1.2 feet. only

Well, here is the finished product:

So, whenever you’re enjoying a baseball game at Surprise Stadium, look around and enjoy our ad!

If you have over 25 people that “like” your business, it would be beneficial to create a vanity url.

Once you create a business, you will have a long url for your page, plus it may not work for some users. So instead of having something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cultural-sponge/114246008628319?v=wall

you can create a shorter url like this:
http://www.facebook.com/culturalsponge
or whatever you like.

A vanity url will work for anyone (non facebook members, too!) and will be easy to remember and use when advertising.

Here are the steps:

Log into your facebook account (you must be logged into your account and the administrator of the business page)

Immediately go to www.facebook.com/username

You will notice you can create a vanity name for each page that you are an administrator. On the bottom box, choose your page and username (you don’t need to type www.facebook.com/) just what you want after the slash.

WARNING- you only have one chance to do this! Once you create the vanity url, you can’t change it!

Did you know that Cultural Sponge creates social media campaigns for businesses? We can help attract your target market through social media. Contact us for more details!
